You don't have to be a master of Microsoft Word to make use of some useful shortcuts. Yes, there are lots of Word shortcuts, but you don't have to memorize them all. Just look for what you would use a lot - you'll most probably be editing faster.

Alt + F

To use Backstage view, open the File page

Alt + Ctrl + Z

Switch between the last four places that you have edited

1	Alt + Ctrl + F	Insert a footnote

Alt + Ctrl + N

Switch to Draft view

These shortcuts only apply if a document is in Outline view.
1	Ctrl + ↑ Shift + N	Demote to body text

0	↑ Shift + F3	Change the case of letters
0	Ctrl + ↑ Shift + H	Apply hidden text formatting

Ctrl + ↑ Shift + V

Apply copied formatting to text

Ctrl + J

Switch a paragraph between justified and left-aligned

1	Ctrl + F9	A field
2	↑ Shift + ⤶ Enter	A line break
4	Ctrl + ↑ Shift + Space	A nonbreaking space

The character code then Alt+X: Insert the Unicode character for the specified Unicode (hexadecimal) character code. For example, to insert the euro currency symbol ( Euro currency symbol ), type 20AC, and then hold down Alt and press X.
0	Alt + X	Find out the Unicode character code for the selected character

Press Ctrl+Tab to switch to the Create from File tab, press Tab, and then type the file name of the object that you want to insert or browse to the file.

Note: You must press Alt+M, or click Mailings, to use these keyboard shortcuts.

how do i paste unformatted text (meaning paste text without the formatting)?

It seems there isn't a direct shortcut for this. You can assign a shortcut to "PasteTextOnly" or do the following:

1. Press Ctrl + V to paste formatted text.
2. Press Ctrl (and release) to open paste context menu.
3. Press T to select "Keep text only".

How do i assign such a shortcut

- Right click ribbon, click Customize the Ribbon
- Click "Customize" button next to the "Keyboard shortcuts" label.
- On Categories (left) column, click "All Commands"
- On Commands (right), find "PasteTextOnly" and assign a new shortcut (by clicking empty "Press new shortcut" area and pressing the shortcut.

This worked for me.
