How to fix Deezer desktop app once and for all?

Since I started using it, Deezer's desktop application was never the most reliable one when it comes to being able to run. The app can run without problems for a long time, but sometimes it may suddenly want you to log in, and get you into a "login loop". How to fix this was beyond me, but my "workaround" is also probably a fix.

What I have tried?

The problem: The Deezer desktop app would "half-open", meaning it would display some content but not play anything. It would complain about connection when there is a connection.

- I tried to delete the cache folder: It didn't fix anything, but now I would have to log in. And it didn't work either, the login page would open in the browser and leave me in a loop between the app and browser login screens.

- Uninstalling and reinstalling the app (by downloading Deezer from its website): Didn't change anything.

The working Deezer fix

After uninstalling the desktop app, I installed it from the Windows Store. It surprisingly worked, without any problems. I don't know exactly why, but I can guess this version of the app uses different locations for settings and/or some local files.

The last resort: Make Deezer a Chrome app

Before I found the "fix" above, I resorted to my own former workaround. This can help you if you cannot use any of the Deezer apps. If you're using Chrome (other browsers may have the same feature, too), just open Deezer player in your browser. Now open the Chrome menu (by clicking the "..." button on the top right), then click Cast, Save and Share > Create shortcut.

Type "Deezer" as your shortcut name and click Create. Now you can open Deezer by clicking the desktop icon you've just created. It'll look like the app and run in its own window, even though it's working in a browser window.

When the Deezer window is open, you can pin it to taskbar by right clickining and clicking Pin to taskbar.

When using Deezer in this way, you lose the ability to run it as a system tray icon. And probably give up a few features more. But as it works in the browser, it's not affected by the desktop app's bugs.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this article helped you to make your Deezer work again. As you noticed, the article offers a bit of a workaround rather than a fix (even though .exe and Store apps look the same), so if you know how to fix the app when it's broken, please share it with us in the comments below.
