When it comes to using operating systems, it's essential to at least know some of the keyboard shortcuts. On this page, we share most of the general shortcuts you can use with macOS. Note: If you have a Windows keyboard, use Alt instead of Option and Windows key instead of Command.

1	⌥ Opt + ↑ Shift + ⌘ Cmd + Del	Empty the Trash without confirmation dialog
0	⌘ Cmd + Y	Use Quick Look to preview the files
0	⌥ Opt + BrightnessUp	Open Displays preferences. This works with either Brightness key
0	⌥ Opt + MissionControl	Open Mission Control preferences
0	⌥ Opt + VolumeUp	Open Sound preferences. This works with any of the volume keys
0	⌘ Cmd +	Move the dragged item to another volume or location. The pointer changes while you drag the item.
0	⌥ Opt +	Copy the dragged item. The pointer changes while you drag the item.
0	⌥ Opt + ⌘ Cmd +	Make an alias of the dragged item. The pointer changes while you drag the item
0	⌥ Opt +	(on a disclosure triangle) Open all folders within the selected folder. This works only when in list view
0	⌘ Cmd +	(on a window title) See the folders that contain the current folder

0	↑ Shift + ⌘ Cmd + 3	Take a screenshot
2	↑ Shift + ⌘ Cmd + 4	Capture a portion of the screen
0	↑ Shift + ⌘ Cmd + 4 + Space	Capture a window or menu
1	↑ Shift + ⌘ Cmd + 5	Open Screenshot app
By default, screenshots are saved to your desktop. This location can be changed in Screenshot app.

These shortcuts aren't available anymore. We have listed them just for some nostalgia.
